Machine-to-machine communications
Smart communities will generate data from millions of sources on a scale unparalleled today. It will be imperative for communications to occur at the machine-to-machine level if such data are to lead to timely and better decision-making.
New distributed control algorithms and resource management services will need to be implemented to ensure the prioritization and delivery of different data, from video to simple state data that meet quality-of-service requirements for different applications and users. The scale of the data will require the use of new processing, validation, deep learning, and distribution algorithms. The aggregation of the data, along with conversion of the data to actionable knowledge and the distribution of this knowledge, will further require transformative approaches to cloud computing, computer processing, data curation, and coordination. New data storage and data search capabilities will be needed. CSL researchers and their partners are already pursuing solutions to these challenges.
