2000s: The Rise of Centers and Institutes

In the 2000s, under Ravi Iyer’s directorship, the idea of actively pursuing development of centers and institutes within CSL started to take shape; doing so became a leading goal of Bill Sanders during his subsequent directorship of CSL in 2010–2014. CSL had come to be seen as well-positioned to serve as a seedbed for nurturing large-scale, high-impact initiatives.
