The World’s Fastest Transistor

Milton Feng and his students created the world’s fastest-ever transistor (509 GHz), only to beat their own record in 2005 (604 GHz) and again in 2006 (765 GHz at room temperature and 845 GHz at −55°C). The 2003 transistor is today widely used in testing equipment and data centers. In 2004, Feng and Nick Holonyak made the first light-emitting transistor; later that year, their team created the first transistor laser.
