Ruby Mendenhall

Prof. Ruby Mendenhall is the Associate Dean for Diversity and Democratization of Health Innovation at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. She is also the Lee Baynes Dallenbauch Professor of Sociology at Illinois, where she also holds appointments in the departments of African American Studies, Urban and Regional Planning, Gender and Women’s Studies and Social Work. She is an affiliate of the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology; Women and Gender in Global Perspectives; the Cline Center for Advanced Social Research; The Institute of Government and Public Affairs, and Epstein Health Law and Policy Program. Examining the medicalization of poverty, her research focuses on the need to prevent social conditions that create disease.
